Our Founder, Mike Barcus, is a long time student and believer of Systems. Growing up in a family where your father is a Nuclear Engineer Naval Officer Submarine Expert & your mother is an Austrian Baker & Classified Document Translator for U.S. Intelligence, Mike quickly came to appreciate A systems based approach to problem solving. While studying astro physics at Iowa State, Mike’s independent nature and love of motorcycle racing were a catalyst for a venture into the unknown and try his hand in the business world. Having a long time interest in manufacturing and distribution systems, he accepted a job at a national door and window manufacturer to gain experience and learn as much as he could.
Three years later Mike was flourishing as a top regional manager but was struck by an industry wide problem; absence of meaningful focus on the customer and unclear company performance targets that failed to create value. It was time to make some decisions about his next move.
Mike’s decision was to focus on commercial lighting, specifically the Hospitality Industry. So he packed up his family and moved to California to start up his own company with a constant quest for continuous improvement and a driving force wholly focused on our customers.
